Oleson, Wissing Collect A-10 Honors

ST. LOUIS – A pair of freshmen on the Saint Louis indoor track and field squad earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors, the league announced today.

Alex Oleson was named the men’s Field Performer of the Week, while Katie Wissing was tabbed the women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards come after the first week of competition.

At Saturday’s Titan First Chance meet at Illinois Wesleyan, Oleson broke the school record in the high jump, reaching a mark of 6 feet, 6.75 inches. He finished tied for first in the event.

Wissing took home a pair of individual titles in her first competition of her collegiate career. She won the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9 inches, and also finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 9.25 inches.

Oleson and Wissing will compete this weekend at the Saluki Fast Start meet at Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. SLU will also send a group of competitors to Indiana University to participate in the Hoosier Open.
