The intersection of Grand and Washington boulevards at Strauss Park will be the place to be, as Thursdays @ The Intersection kicks up the activity within the Grand Center arts district this summer.
The weekly summer series of entertainment begins from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday June 10, continuing each consecutive Thursday through July 15.
With creatively themed evenings of live performances and interactive activities, each centered around one of the many arts specialties found among the district's venues and organizations, Thursdays @ The Intersection is perfectly timed to capture the theater and dining crowds yet provides a full experience in itself for those who want to stop by and enjoy patio drinks or dining and some summer entertainment.
“When we began talking about a summer music series, we knew that being located in Grand Center, we had a lot more than music to offer. If we gathered up the various arts mediums around the district, merged them into a weekly, themed, interactive and most of all, creatively executed event, then we would really have something,” said Kelly Weber, director of arts programming for Grand Center Inc. “What we crafted has evolved into a playground for the arts, in keeping with a carefree, summertime mindset.”
Each week, Thursdays @ The Intersection features live music and highlights a different creative theme: from dance to set design, the written word to visual arts, theater to costume design. The Grand Center events team has been developing a roster of interesting musicians, performers and artists with the help of some of the district’s partners including the Sheldon Concert Hall, Jazz St. Louis, the Black Rep and Craft Alliance.
“Home to more than 30 arts organizations, it wasn’t difficult to get a lot of creative input on how to shape this series,” Weber said. “Programming details are still being worked out, and it seems one good idea sparks another.”
