The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold an informational public meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the Interstate 55 Bridge Replacement Project on Holly Hills Avenue and Delor Street.
It is an estimated $3 million dollar project that will remove and replace the Holly Hills and Delor bridges over Interstate 55 starting in spring 2011.
The public meeting will be an open house format at the St. Louis Public Library, Carondelet Branch, located at 6800 Michigan Ave., St. Louis.
MoDOT will display design plans, detour routes and other project-related information for the bridge replacement work to share with the public at the meeting. It will be conducted in an open-house format where no formal presentations will be made. Participants are welcomed to submit comments during the public meeting, and ask MoDOT questions about the project.
According to MoDOT, the Holly Hills and Delor Bridges over I-55 were built in the early 1960s and have deteriorated beyond the point of simply repairing the bridges. MoDOT said these bridge structures need to be completely replaced. MoDOT will remove and replace the Holly Hills and Delor Bridges, as well as upgrade the sidewalks and pedestrian ramps to American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
During construction, there will be various lane closures on I-55.
There will also be a complete closure of the interstate during a weekend when the bridges are removed in spring 2011. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2011.
