St. Louis native Mike Ambersley scored 3 goals as AC St. Louis topped the Portland Timbers 3-0 at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park before 2,256 fans Wednesday night.
Ambersley, a 5-8 forward, opened the scored in the 25th minute, then made it 2-0 two minutes later when he took a long punt from goalkeeper Alec Dufty and lobbed his shot over Portland goalkeeper Steve Cronin. Ambersley tallied for the third time on a rebound in the 57th minute.
The victory raised AC's record to 5-10-4 while Portland fell to 7-6-5 in the U.S. Soccer Federation Division 2 Pro League. The victory represented a major milestone for AC as it thoroughly defeated a team that is moving up to Division I Major League Soccer next season.
