St Louis Cardinals owner, Fred Saigh, pleads guilty and was convicted of income tax evasion.
He was entenced to 15 months in prison & fined $15,000.
National League President, Warren Giles, ordered Saigh to sell the baseball team, paving the way for Anheuser-Busch to purchase the storied franchise
Fred Saigh died December 29, 1999.
His estate benefited many charitable organizations. Fred also had a brother, William Saigh who was a professor at St Louis University and started a local restaurant chain, the “Lettuce Leaf.”
